
Yam plantain pottage also known as yam and plantain porridge. It is also called Asaro in Nigeria.
Some people prefer to have the yam pottage on its own, but I prefer yam plantain pottage,some of my friends love it too.Β Β Β Β
There is this sweetness plantain gives to the yam pottage.
Some people don’t love to use Tomato,for their yam and plantain pottage,but i love too,because it makes it richer and tastier.Β
Some uses vegetables at end,some don’t, but I am part of the people that do.
You can decide to use ugu leaves,spinach or water leaves.feel free to add your preferred vegetables.Β Β Β Β
Β If you don’t have yam,you can also use sweet potatoes for this recipe, Just make sure you don’t over cook the sweet potatoes,they are much softer than yam and they cook faster.

Β Ingredients (This recipe serves 2)
Β .1/2tuber of small yam
Β Β .2 firm ripe plantain
Β . 1/2 bottle of palm oil
Β Β . 5 small scotch bonnet(Rodo)
Β Β Β .2 bell pepper (Tatashe)
Β Β Β .2 Tomatoes
Β Β Β .2 onions
Β Β Β .2 cloves Garlic (optional)
Β Β Β .Shrimp (optional)
Β Β Β .Smoked fish
Β Β Β .Smoked prawns
Β Β Β .Crayfish
Β Β Β .1 knorr cubes or your preferred
Β Β Β .Your stock/water
Β Β Β .Salt to taste.
Method
Blend the bell peppers,tomatoes, onion,scotch bonnet and garlic into a smooth paste and keep aside.

Slice and peel your yam,cut into small chunks and set aside.

peel and slice your plantain,into small circles or you dice it.

Now get a pot,place on a hob on medium heat, add palm oil, when it is hot,add your blended pepper, and your crayfish with your seasoning, cover and fry for 15 minutes.Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Β When it’s fried you will know when the pepper reduces,and you can no longer taste the sourness of the tomatoes .
Add your stock or water leave to cook for 5 minutes.After 5 minutes stir together and Add the yam,cook until the yam is tender not soft, just tender.

After that mash half of the yam.

Add your plantain, your smoked prawns ,shrimp, smoked fish and your ugu leaves.

Mix together and taste for seasoning adjust if necessary, cover and continue cooking for 5 minutes.
Your yam plantain pottage is ready.
